With the Government announcing the biggest transformation of apprenticeships in a decade — backed by £1 billion of new investment – employers will now have access to unprecedented levels of financial support and training flexibility.
From October 2026, SMEs hiring 16–24-year‑old apprentices may be able to claim a £2,000 incentive, helping offset onboarding and training costs at a time when the sector faces chronic recruitment challenges.
Employers hiring young people aged 18–24 who have been on Universal Credit for six months may also receive a £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant, widening opportunities to bring new talent into care roles.
The reforms also introduce new foundation apprenticeships, creating accessible pathways into care for young people starting their careers.
These programmes provide structured skills development and a route to long‑term employment – essential for a sector needing committed, values‑driven staff.
For existing employees, apprenticeships offer a cost‑effective way to upskill your workforce. With the Government continuing to prioritise high‑quality training and offering more flexibility in how levy funds can be used, providers can develop confident, capable teams while improving retention and service quality.
With such significant financial and strategic advantages available, now is the time for Staffordshire’s employers to act.
