No wrong path to success for young people

Oct 3, 2025 | News

There are many exciting career opportunities and no single "right" way to pursue them, the Ladder team advises.

The traditional academic route is just one option. There are many different pathways into a chosen career and you may decide to change direction if the path you first chose does not feel right for you.

Your success does not depend solely on exam grades and if a chosen course does not feel right, it is always possible to change direction.

While students are required by law to remain in education until the age of 18, this does not necessarily mean staying on at school or college.

Vocational learning, apprenticeships and work-based training are all equally valid routes.

To help young people and their families explore the full range of post-16 opportunities, a dedicated website – www.staffsjobscareers.com/optionsafterschool – brings together independent training providers, colleges, and details of available courses and support.

The site highlights both traditional and conventional routes, with insights from young people themselves about what learning after 16 is really like.

With hundreds of options available, from BTECs and apprenticeships to specialist training, exam results alone are not the deciding factor in future success.
