Employers can influence regional skills policy landscape

Jan 30, 2026 | News

Employers across the West Midlands are invited to attend upcoming sector‑specific focus groups and play an active role in shaping the region’s skills policy.

These workshops form part of the West Midlands Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) and offer a vital opportunity for businesses to directly influence the skills system that supports their sector.

The first plan, published in August 2023, set out key priorities to strengthen collaboration between employers and training providers and to ensure the region’s skills pipeline meets real business needs.

As Phase 2 gets under way, the Chamber of Commerce partners, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and Black Country Chamber of Commerce, and the Ladder Foundation are undertaking an annual assessment of skills needs across four priority LSIP sectors: ICT and Digital, Construction, Manufacturing (including Health Tech and Med Tech), and Logistics and Distribution.

This year’s review places a strong emphasis on digital and green skills, alongside evaluating the progress made since the LSIP launch.

Discussion topics will include: Challenges and opportunities around digitally upskilling your workforce. Current and future sector skills need linked to low carbon, clean growth and net‑zero ambitions. Your perceptions of the LSIP and its impact across the West Midlands and Warwickshire. Additional support needed from local or national stakeholders to accelerate digital and green skills development.

Your insight is essential to building a responsive, employer‑led skills system. If you are an employer interested in attending any of these free workshops, email lsip@cw-chamber.co.uk
